Dry stone walling is a very old skill used widely in the past and still in some of the country areas to divide fields and contain animals as well as providing shelter from rain, wind and snow. Building a strong and stable wall that can last for many years is a very skillful art. The method of construction and type of stone used is dependent on the locally available stone and the type of animals for which the wall is providing a barrier and shelter. Here we are in Derbyshire rebuilding a very old set of walls in a ‘Y’ shape used to provide shelter for sheep on top of a very windy ridge.
